When in conversation I always expect straight and simple answers, and usually take things at face value, and why shouldn’t I? It’s coming from people who I meet every day at work, in the neighborhood and even mates.
But in every second conversation, before someone is about to reveal something they think is significant comes this – “honestly speaking” – what the hell does that mean? Usually you’re not honest? Usually you don’t air your real views and perspective? Usually you just mislead everyone?
The other one that crops up in every 3rd sentence is “frankly speaking”. So, are people being apologetic for what they are about to say? Or do they just don’t have it in them to present their point of view without a polite or politically correct advance disclaimer.
Has this now become a matter conversation? Can’t people offer a point of view without these disclaimers, or does using these words and phrases make them feel they are saying something quite significant?
I find this silly , people should just speak their mind, all the time.
